Alpha Gregory
Artistic Director
Alpha Gregory received her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts Degrees, with music majors in both, from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada. She worked for two years as a music educator with CUSO (Canadian University Services Overseas) in the West Indies and then as a teacher/housemistress in Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.
She has taught music at all levels of the education spectrum from children as young as 18 months through to adults. Her training as a secondary music teacher was put to good use for many years but it is as a specialist in the field of Early Childhood Music that she has gained her reputation in Canberra.
While lecturing in Music Methods at the University of New England, Alpha came to the realization that the need for teachers of music for the very young was greater than the need for secondary teachers.
Alpha operates her own business, Pied Piper Music For Littlies, and has given workshops and in-service courses on Early Childhood Music. She has worked as lecturer and tutor in Early Childhood and Primary School Music Methods for the University of Canberra and has taught music for the Canberra Montessori School.
As a singer, she has performed as guest soloist for Radio Barbados, with the Bridgetown Choral Society, the Armidale City Symphony and Choral Society, and is currently Artistic Director of Sophisticated Swing and Blue Sky Singers as well as Woden Valley Youth Choir.
She has given choral workshops in Tasmania and New South Wales. She was a music director for Gondwana Juniors in 2003 and has been invited back to do the same in 2008.
In 2003 she was the recipient of a Centenary Medal for service as Artistic Director of Woden Valley Youth Choir. In the same year she was also the recipient of a Rotary Community Service Award.
