A New Year!

Welcome to WVYC 2011!

It was a real buzz for the choristers to be involved in the Australia Day Ceremony as well as the Australian of the Year Award Ceremony on Tuesday, 25 January. With 35,000 people shouting, singing and bopping along to performers such as The Wiggles, Stan Walker, Jessica Mauboy, Jimmy Barnes, Thirsty Merc, The McClymonts, Ross Wilson, Little Red, Justice Crew and Todd McKenney, it was an exciting night! The program was televised nationwide and then was broadcast throughout SE Asia the following day. If you missed it, you can always Google the event and watch the action from the comfort of your desk.

We will be singing for Legacy on April 10 but before that we have committments to sing for Canberra Day's Symphony in the Park (Sunday 13 March) and at the Commonwealth Multi-Faith Ceremony (Monday 14 March).

We've begun learning the music for Adiemus, which is to be used for the Canberra International Music Festival (Sunday 15 May) and this exciting suite is already loved by the singers who can't wait for the addition of the Canberra Youth Orchestra and all the percussion. Don't miss this event!

We've commissioned a piece of music from Dan Walker this year and we're looking forward to a workshop with him on the first weekend in June. The Secret Migration will be premiered at our Annual Concert in September.

We have much to be grateful for, but living in this beautiful city where so many performing opportunities abound is high on the list!

Enjoy your year! Let it be a musical one!
